Another entertaining hour in the company of the young people who come to the after school group we run at a town centre church. Although originally based on students from one school they’ve been bringing friends from other schools.
Today we asked for their thoughts around the statement “Church is…” which led to some inspiring discussion about what they like and don’t like about church (many of them have had a Catholic upbringing). They were thrilled to discover the church where we meet had a drum kit in the main worship area downstairs! But, without our prompting, they also started reflecting on whether being together in this sort of way once a week was, in itself, a form of being church.
I love it when young people do theology!
