On Saturday evening Diana and I (and about 200 others) went to a fashion show as part of Fairtrade Fortnight. The event was organised by our friend Jo and the folks from Fair Trade Colchester and was co-hosted by Jo and Martin Newell, local musician and poet.
It was an enjoyable evening with stalls by local Fair Trade retailers and stuff from other importers or suppliers from around the country, and was a real affirmation of the work of dozens of committed individuals who have made Fair Trade an every day issue.
Who would have believed that in only about 10 years Fair Trade would become mainstream among some of our biggest retailers, Sainsburys, Marks and Spencer, and longstanding Fair Trade supporters The Co-Op.
Looking forward to seeing more quality FT clothing in mainstream stores. (Surely jeans in Tesco for £3 is wrong?)
