John Dunford, a speaker at the Association of School and College Leaders annual conference, may have put into words what many of us who work in schools experience all too regularly – that:
Later on he says:
"The old certainties have gone and with them the institutions, such as the church, which articulated those certainties. So for some children, it is only the school that provides a framework that sets the line between what is and isn’t acceptable."
He is right. But it’s also interesting that once again the church is referenced as a historic source of moral certainty. I hope he is aware of the many Christian ministers, youth workers and schools workers who contribute extensively to the life of so many schools, making a significant difference to young people and staff.
